Tikuli Handpainted jewellery box from the hinterlands of India, Bihar. Tikuli is a traditional craft from Patna, Bihar and known for its intricate designs inspired from Madhubani paintings and bright colours.
Enamel paint is used to make the base material (MDF wood) heat proof and water proof.

About The Craft
Tikuli art takes its name from the word “Tikli” or “Bindi”. Tikuli Art originated in Patna, Bihar and has a rich history of 800 years. It was revived to its modern form in 1954 by Shri Upendra Maharathi, a renowned artist from Bihar. Today, Tikuli Art is known for its intricate hand painting in vibrant colours adorning everyday objects such as coasters, pen stands, and decorative wall panels.
Tikuli art form draws inspiration from Madhubani art and it commonly depicts everyday chores of household women, auspicious occasions such as wedding ceremonies, and scenes from Brindavan
Women artisans from marginal incomes have found their place in the society through the financial independence and This craft gives economical support to about 300-500 artisans’ families on a regular basis in Digha, Danapur, and Gai Ghat mahallas of Patna town of Bihar. Patna and Harihans urban areas are popular for Tikuli Art Work. Banaras, Patna, and Kolkata are famous central markets of Tikuli Paintings.
