Pochampalli Patola (Double Ikat) Triangles Dupatta
About Ikat
Ikat is a Malay word which means ‘To tie’. Yarns are tied and resist dyed in the pre-loom stage. The yarns in warp (along the length) or weft (along the width) or both are tied and dyed to form intricate designs. It’s one of the most sophisticated forms of weaving wherein expertise and precision is required in each tying, dyeing and weaving stages to produce intricate designs. Telia Rumal from Andhra, Patan Patola from Gujarat and Bandha from Odisha are glorious examples of indigenous rich traditions of hand woven fabrics with resist dyed yarns. Pochampally in Telangana is known for the beautiful designs in single ikat (either warp or weft is tie-dyed) and double ikat (Both warp and weft yarns are tie-dyed).
