Neran Embroidery
Neran means the eye in ‘Kutchi’ language. As the word suggests, it’s a tiny, eye-shaped motif that is the building block in Pakko style of embroidery. Each ‘Eye’ is outlined in a dark colour, filled in with a bright colour and highlighted in white. Small-sized mirrors enhance the appeal of this embroidery.
In recent times, Neran is being developed as an individual embroidery style that has an identity of its own. Neran embroidery is practised by the Sodha and Jadeja communities.
