From Mould to Masterpiece

Ever wondered how intricate, nature-inspired designs in metal come to life, with every curve, contour, and detail so beautifully defined?

Conceptualised and designed under the guidance of a National Award-winning master craftsman, each piece begins its journey in a soft, pliable medium such as clay or wax. This is where the magic begins, as delicate textures, fine lines, and intricate details are carefully brought to life. A plaster mould is then created from the original sculpture, followed by a resin cast to create a durable master model for brass casting.

Individual brass components—leaves, branches, and base plates—are cast separately and then meticulously hand-assembled and welded using traditional techniques, with brass and borax (suhaga) bringing the design together.

But the journey doesn’t end with casting. In the hands of trained women artisans, each piece undergoes several stages of buffing and polishing. Using specialised wire and cloth mops, they smooth and refine the surface, gradually revealing the metal’s natural character. A rich antique bronze patina is then applied to create depth and warmth, while selective highlighting brings out luminous golden accents along the raised edges. Finally, a protective lacquer coating and heat treatment help preserve the finish and guard against tarnishing.

What emerges is far more than a metal artefact. Every delicate detail carries a story of craftsmanship, while every finished piece celebrates the hands and heritage that bring it to life.
